The Amalfi coast is world famous for its extraordinary natural beauty. Unique towns and villages cluster along the cliffs set like diamonds between the coves with their crystal clear water and the soaring mountains. In 1997 the Amalfi coast was inscribed on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites. The Amalfi coast begins at the Gulf of Salerno, south of Naples in the province of Salerno, and stretches from Positano in the west to Vietri sul Mare in the east. It has 13 municipalities: Amalfi, Atrani, Cetara, Concadei Marini, Furore, Maiori, Minori, Positano, Praiano, Ravello, Scala, Tramonti and Vietri sul Mare.
