Pilatus | Lucerne's own mountain

Peter Büsser
General Manager Hotel des Balances
Lucerne | Switzerland

The wonderful Hotel des Balances, a place steeped in history, lies in the heart of Lucerne's old town right on the banks of the River Reuss. Unique façade frescoes give the hotel the air of a Venetian palace, and the Venetian feel continues on the restaurant terrace of this design hotel where diners can enjoy magical views of the river and of the mountains beyond.

“The ultimate lake- and mountain-experience on our doorstep.”

Peter Büsser

At a height of more than 2000 metres above sea level, the mountain Pilatus offers an incredible view on the Alps of Central Switzerland. Lucerne’s “own” mountain invites to see the canton from a different angle. In both summer and winter the mountain massif offers a huge variety of possible activities.

One can enjoy a wonderful view on the canton Lucerne from a gondola-ride. This ride takes 30 minutes while overcoming a height of 800 metres. The gondola goes from Kriens to Kriesernegg till Fräkmüntegg.

The aerial cableway is passing the route from Fräkmüntegg to Pilatus Kulm. The “Dragon Ride” gives the impression of flying thanks to the modern design of the cab. At the Pilatus Kulm one can enjoy the unique panorama of the Alps of Central Switzerland. There are some rest points with a wide culinary variety.

The world’s steepest cogwheel seems a little bit nostalgic and it is nostalgic. The cogwheel was opened in 1889 and till 1937 it was steam powered. Like the “Dragon Ride” the cogwheel leads to the Pilatus Kulm.
