Before There Was a Hotel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the south of Mallorca, close to Es Trenc<\/strong> and the protected natural area of Salobrar de Campos<\/strong>, lies the Balearic Islands’ only natural thermal spring. Its water has been known for centuries, and generations have sought out this special place since Roman times. And as you might expect from a centuries-old spring, there is a legend attached to it. The story tells of an animal epidemic in Mallorca and the discovery that animals bathing in the spring did not fall ill. Word spread, and people began visiting the water themselves, attributing special properties to it. Later, a chapel, accommodation and eventually a thermal bath were built around the spring. In 1869, the water was officially recognised as thermal water of public benefit. The place changed \u2013 the spring remained.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the Story Became a Hotel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Another important chapter began in 1916, when Don Cosme Mar\u00eda Oliver <\/strong>acquired Fontsanta. More than a century has passed since then, and the property remains in the hands of the Morell Oliver family today. Decades later, Torre de Canyamel <\/strong>was entrusted with reimagining the historic thermal baths and developing them into the five-star thermal hotel we know today. And this is exactly what makes Fontsanta so fascinating. There was no need to invent an extraordinary story for a new hotel \u2013 the story was already there.<\/strong> The spring, the old thermal baths, the landscape and everything that had connected generations of people to this place. The hotel simply became the latest chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fontsanta Today<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The past is still present, yet there is no sense of walking through the historic setting of an old thermal bath. Mediterranean gardens, bright interiors, natural materials and contemporary art define the hotel today. Sculptures, paintings and installations from an art collection created especially for the property add another layer to Fontsanta. At the same time, they reflect an approach we also recognise from Torre de Canyamel’s other Mallorcan hotels: valuing what already exists while always leaving room for something new. And, of course, there is the water. The very same natural thermal spring that brought people here centuries ago remains at the heart of the Fontsanta thermal experience today. The spring was known centuries ago. Later came pilgrims, a thermal bath was built around it, generations cared for this special place, and today it forms part of the everyday life of a hotel. Mallorca has changed along the way \u2013 and the people who arrive here today are looking for something very different from those who came before them.
