Tucked away in the heart of Brixen – between alpine charm and urban edge – lies Badhaus, a striking architectural retreat that fuses heritage and modernity in bold, elegant ways. Built on the site of a former public bathhouse, the hotel blends old and new with a design that is sculptural, thoughtful, and full of light.
Designed by renowned architecture firm bergmeisterwolf, two distinct structures form the architectural core of the hotel, crafted from just four carefully selected materials: clay bricks, copper, fluted glass, and steel. Exposed concrete is used sparingly, appearing only in the bar interior and guest rooms, where it adds a clean, contemporary contrast.
The new hotel was constructed on historic ground – once home to the city’s public bathhouse. The hotel represents a completely new architectural creation. Surrounded by historic buildings, it positions itself with quiet confidence in its contextual setting, respecting the character of the neighborhood while adding a bold, modern presence.
The two towers are connected by open-air walkways, which also serve as access to the rooms – a design gesture that reflects transparency, lightness, and thoughtful spatial flow.
The 21 rooms – including 4 suites and 17 double rooms – are designed with understated elegance and a natural material palette. Local ash wood, aqua-green quartzite stone, and fine Italian linen create a warm, tactile atmosphere that blends simplicity with sophistication.
A small rooftop terrace on the fourth floor, nestled between the building volumes, reveals a gentle panorama of the nearby hills and vineyards – a quiet retreat to pause and take in the landscape.
Just a few steps from the hotel lies the Adler Bridge, a small but striking viewpoint. From here, guests can admire the Plose, Brixen’s iconic local mountain – a symbol of both tranquility and adventure, where the pulse of the city meets the rhythm of nature.
At the heart of the Badhaus experience is the Viertel Bar – a welcoming meeting place for guests and locals alike. Here, creative snacks, curated drinks, and a wide selection of local craft beers are served, including the house-brewed Viertel Bier, produced just outside Brixen at the Braubasis brewery in Schabs.
With its cozy, stylish atmosphere, the bar invites guests to linger and enjoy the flavors of the region in a casual, design-forward setting.
One of the hotel’s defining features is its integration of contemporary art. Renowned artist Michael Fliri created the stunning light installation “Liquid Starry Sky”, which floats above the lobby like a luminous river of sculptural hands – a symbol of connection, transformation, and shared experience.
At the entrance, Fliri’s surreal sculpture “Bathrobe” greets guests with a sense of humor and introspection, playfully blurring the lines between body, space, and identity.
Badhaus is more than just a hotel – it’s a living, breathing artwork, made for lovers of design, culture, and contemporary aesthetics.
