A hotel like an exhibition: where art meets history

Tucked away in Stufels, the oldest quarter of Brixen, the Arthotel Lasserhaus – is a place where contemporary art, heritage, and hospitality converge in perfect harmony. Originally a 15th-century patrician residence, the building has been sensitively restored by the Milan-based architectural firm Vudafieri Saverino & Partners and reimagined as a refined 4-star superior art hotel.

Historic features such as vaulted ceilings, original frescoes, and the inner courtyard have been preserved and paired with modern architecture, creating a fluid dialogue between past and present that defines the soul of the house.

The Rooms

The Lasserhaus offers 10 individually curated accommodations, including 6 double rooms, 3 suites, and 1 single room. Each space tells its own story, with fine materials, soft tones, design classics, and contemporary artworks setting the tone for a refined yet intimate atmosphere. Many rooms open to views over the Isarco river toward Brixen’s old town skyline – with its towers, rooftops, and cathedral dome.

Art & Curatorship

Art is the beating heart of the Lasserhaus. Conceived from the outset as a living art space, the hotel brings together contemporary installations and the historical Faller Family Collection, which includes over 100 works spanning from the 17th to the 20th century. Artistic direction is led by Stefanie Prieth (Contemporary Art) and Rose Bourdon (Classical Collection).

Highlights include:

• Peter Kogler: A psychedelic wall installation in the historic wine cellar
• Esther Stocker: Floating sculptures entitled “Thoughts and Planets” suspended above the beds
• Ingrid Hora: A sculptural “wall bar” playfully challenging perception and space
• Petra Polli: Neon works featuring bold typographic messages (“Expect the best” "M" and "Like")
• Alexander Wierer: A time-inspired work in the stairwell reflecting decay and duration
• Stephan Kessler & Lesley de Vries: Classical and modern works in the so-called “Patron’s Room”

The art concept is fluid and evolving – with readings, exhibitions, concerts, and an artist-in-residence program forming part of the house’s cultural DNA. Many of these events are presented under the Lasser Crossing format.

Culinary & Atmosphere

Guests of the Lasserhaus enjoy an exclusive breakfast at the Viertel Bar in the nearby partner hotel, Boutique Hotel Badhaus – just a short walk away and equally dedicated to design, quality, and contemporary hospitality.

Back at the Lasserhaus, the breakfast lounge serves as the hotel’s social heart – a space to gather, browse, and linger. Guests are welcome to enjoy coffee and tea at any time, complimentary and freely available. In the afternoon, the lounge transforms into a relaxed salon offering a rotating sweet buffet – a treat for the palate and the perfect excuse to pause.

A small library with curated art and architecture books invites quiet exploration, while the wine cellar will soon open its doors for tastings and intimate cultural events – adding another layer to the house’s rich artistic atmosphere.
