Eat & Drink

K5 Hotel Tokyo: Three Places, One Evening in Tokyo

At boutique hotel K5, food is about more than simply satisfying hunger. It is about the transitions: from the first coffee to a late lunch, from small plates to a glass of wine, from dinner to a drink at the bar. Three culinary concepts tell the story of how different a day in this city can feel.

CAFE DANCE: From Breakfast to Aperitif

The day begins at CAFE DANCE with homemade waffles, intended for a breakfast that can effortlessly turn into brunch without much ceremony. The café sees itself as the hotel’s lounge, a place for those little interruptions that sometimes lead to the better stories. The people behind it speak of moments that make your heart beat faster, right in the middle of everyday life. A rather appealing ambition for a place where, first and foremost, you come for a coffee. Later, the offering shifts towards aperitifs and dinner: natural wines sit alongside tapas, while the kitchen accompanies the transition from day to night without needing to turn it into an event. CAFE DANCE embraces the effortless pleasure of being together. You come for a coffee and stay for a glass of wine.

MARUYAMA: An Evening of Culinary Discoveries

MARUYAMA takes a different approach. The flagship restaurant of Chihiro Maruyama, whose work has repeatedly shaped new dining cultures beyond traditional categories, takes guests through an evening full of culinary experiences. Izakaya-inspired dishes are served, perfectly suited to an evening that does not necessarily have to follow the classic sequence of starter, main course and dessert. Instead, you order another dish, keep tasting and allow the meal to find its own rhythm. The idea is less about the conventional structure of a restaurant experience and more about a dining culture in which food and drinks keep each other company.

AKAI BAR: Drinks and Stories

AKAI BAR tells a story of its own. It belongs to a fictional character named Akai-san, a collector who has gathered remarkable finds during his travels around the world. His personality is part of the setting: the bar feels like a place shaped by an imaginary biography, filled with objects someone might have discovered, selected and brought home. Meanwhile, the glasses are filled with classics, Japanese whisky and gin. The bar’s red interior sets the tone, the collection provides conversation starters, and the drink gives you a reason to stay.

Three Concepts, One Culinary Journey

Three different perspectives on gastronomy, connected by a shared idea: a venue does not have to do everything, but it should know what it wants to be. CAFE DANCE belongs to the easy flow of the day, MARUYAMA to Japanese-French cuisine in the spirit of izakaya, and AKAI BAR to the ritual of a drink and the pleasure of discovery. At K5, this creates a small culinary narrative that extends far beyond the menu.

It is about the time between appointments, the unplanned second glass and the pleasant possibility that a short visit might turn into a day with a long evening.
