EVERELMUS – A Gift from the Past
Where history, art and hospitality come back to life in Bruges.
It began with a walk through Bruges – and turned into a love story with the past.
In early 2021, during the quiet days of the pandemic, Marjan and Fernand stumbled upon a dilapidated house by the Dijver canal. The building was in disrepair, yet its spirit was palpable. Just steps from the Gruuthuse Museum, it seemed to whisper stories of centuries gone by.
A House That Tells a Story
The building that now houses the Boutique Hotel EVERELMUS dates back to the 18th century, with origins reaching into the medieval period.
During the restoration, the couple uncovered historical traces – 18th-century wallpaper, aged floors and ceilings, and even archaeological finds like a child’s sandal. Every detail became a thread connecting past and present.
Between Past and Present
From the beginning, the vision was clear: to breathe new life into the house without erasing its history.
The result is a boutique retreat that unites art, culture and authenticity. With only four rooms – each inspired by Flemish masters such as Van Eyck and Memling – EVERELMUS reflects timeless elegance and quiet beauty. Each space bears the name of a pigment once used by painters, infusing colour and depth into the atmosphere.
A Home for Lovers of Beauty
Today, EVERELMUS is more than just a hotel – it’s a haven where guests reconnect with time itself.
Breakfast in the garden, views of the canal, the calm rhythm of Bruges – here, the past becomes part of the present.
“The house has a new heart and a new pair of lungs – a gentle rejuvenation you can feel while staying here,” say Marjan and Fernand.
EVERELMUS is a gift – not wrapped in paper, but revealed through care, patience, and a deep appreciation for beauty.
