Green with a Twist

A new hotel has one decisive advantage: no one has found their favourite spot yet. THE GREEN opens in Uderns in December.

Where Green Sets the Tone

So the first question will not be whether the bar is nicer than the pool, but where you would most like to stay a while. At the Evergreen Bar overlooking the Green Lagoon? On the terrace? Or somewhere you can see as little of everyone else as possible. The hotel is located beside the golf course, right next to the forest. Hence the Green in its name, which also happens to be a fitting description of the surroundings. Plenty of greenery, mountains, water. The hotel itself holds back on Alpine symbolism.

Design Overlooking the Green Lagoon

Instead, Kalser marble and wood sit side by side inside. The floors are made of stone, reclaimed wooden beams run through the rooms, and the furniture and lighting echo the building’s rounded design language. It feels warm without becoming rustic, and is thoroughly styled without needing to resort to the term design hotel. The Evergreen Bar forms the transition to the outdoors. Beside it are the pool and Green Lagoon – a natural swimming lake that will probably quickly become the hotel’s most popular meeting place in summer. In December, a different kind of gathering is likely to take place there: people standing by the water after the sauna, wondering just how serious they are about ice bathing.

Travelling Together, Enjoying Your Own Space

For a place in the mountains, THE GREEN is remarkably unconcerned with catering to just one type of guest. Children and adults have their own areas, and the spa has both a family section and an adults-only area. There is childcare, but also retreats for those who like to forget that childcare exists while on holiday. Families can travel together without having to spend every moment together. There are plenty of different ways to spend the day anyway. Play golf. Hike. Ski. Stay in the spa. Eat. Eat again. The dining concept allows for extended dining hours, from the Zillertaler Bauernstube to the Maximilian Stube, its slightly more refined counterpart. Afterwards, the bar is not far away.

Between Mountain Moments and Favourite Places

In winter, the Hochzillertal and Spieljoch ski areas are within easy reach. Anyone wanting to spend a day on the mountain can head to the Kristallhütte, which also belongs to the Schultz Group. In summer, the golf course is right outside the door, and the Zillertal begins where the hotel grounds end. The rooms are generously proportioned, ranging from double rooms to suites with direct access to the Green Lagoon or their own garden. Here too, it is less about Alpine decoration than materials and space. Wood, marble, natural tones. Things that do not need to explain where you are. In December, guests will get to know the hotel before it shows any signs of use. No established rituals, no regular guests, no stories about which table is the best. Instead, there is the tingling curiosity of an unfamiliar place.

Eventually, someone will find their favourite spot. Until then, you can still try them all.
