A new chapter in a long history

The Hofergut is situated in a central location in Reischach, at the foot of the Kronplatz, and yet it is surrounded by picturesque green landscapes. Nestled in a spacious forest setting, the Hofergut offers its guests the opportunity for relaxing walks and contemplative moments. Here, visitors can experience the beauty of nature and find peace in South Tyrol’s places of power.

The Hofergut, with its newly remodelled suites and flats in Reischach near Bruneck, had long lain dormant. After the renovation, the listed building shines in a new light. It is a place with character, genuine and unadulterated. A modern zeitgeist has found its way in without displacing the original. Old and new unite harmoniously and create an authentic atmosphere. The Hofergut promises peace and relaxation, a retreat from hectic everyday life to find yourself.

Rural estates, known as “Houve-Höfe”, are among the oldest economic units in the country. In the era of Charlemagne, special administrative tasks were assigned to them. This was also the case for the Hofergut, known at the time as the “Hofer” estate. According to ancient tradition, the estate not only served as the court seat of the Lords of Rischon from 1085 AD, but also functioned as the seat of the St. Michelsburg provincial court. This makes the estate one of the oldest documented buildings in the region.

The suites & apartments embody the harmonious mix of old elegance and new soul. The use of selected materials for façades and furniture as well as light and airy fabrics and timeless design inspired by nature create an ambience that invites you to sleep, dream and enjoy.

Experience a relaxing getaway at a simply designed retreat, away from the distractions of everyday life. Immerse yourself in the special spiritual atmosphere of a monastery in Umbria and enjoy the seclusion from the world. The natural surroundings and the silence help you to connect with your innermost self.

The History of Eremito

Eremito embodies the essence of a bygone era, when hermitages were places of contemplation and spiritual growth. The restoration of this tradition allows visitors to find the key to inner peace in the tranquility and seclusion of this place. The Umbrian valleys surrounding it enhance the feeling of spirituality, enchanting both the eyes and the soul.

Founder Marcello Murzilli on Eremito

Marcello Murzilli describes the creation of Eremito as the result of his deep emotions and four years of intense work. The hermitage from the early 14th century has been restored to its original splendor, providing space for the regeneration of mind and body, and a reconnection with life’s priorities that are often lost in the chaos of everyday life.

“The atmosphere of Eremito, illuminated only by moonlight and candlelight, evokes a time when luxury was less material and more focused on the needs of the soul.”

The “Celluzze” Cells: Ancient Luxury, Minimalist Interpretation

The rooms at Eremito, known as “Celluzze,” pay homage to the ancient tradition of hermitages, offering a space for reflection and prayer amid a hectic world.

The “Celluzze” are inspired by the ancient monk cells, providing space for reflection and prayer. Equipped with a French bed and a small bathroom with a shower, they allow for a return to the simple joys of life.

Thanks to modern insulation, the room temperature remains pleasant without the need for air conditioning. An ancient underfloor heating system, operated by a central wood stove, provides cozy warmth.

The attention to detail is also evident in the choice of materials: bed linen made of spun hemp, hand-embroidered for an authentic feel. While modern amenities are present, such as comfortable seating and a stone desk by the window, deliberately absent are telephones, televisions, and Wi-Fi. Instead, guests can enjoy the inspiring view of the surrounding landscape and the green valley.

Refectory: A Place of Enjoyment and Tradition

In the vegetable garden of the Eremito estate, various types of organic vegetables and herbs thrive, forming the basis for delicious dishes. All ingredients are carefully selected and come from the immediate surroundings to guarantee the highest quality.

Dinners are enjoyed in an atmosphere of silence, sharpening the senses and promoting the conscious enjoyment of meals.

The house is characterized by exclusive simplicity, which is also reflected in its gastronomic philosophy. Orienting itself towards ancient recipes and simple dishes from the Mediterranean monastic tradition.

The cuisine of Eremito offers vegetarian and vegan dishes served daily in a fixed menu. The dishes are based on fresh, seasonal ingredients to capture the authentic taste of the Umbrian region.

In winter, all meals are served in the spacious dining room in front of an imposing stone fireplace. In the warmer months, guests enjoy their meals in the shade of the pergola, surrounded by the untouched nature of the nature reserve.

Relaxation: The Quintessence of Happiness

In the SPA of Eremito, mind and body come together to experience true bliss. In an environment permeated by ancient Gregorian chants, you discover inner balance in the exclusive simplicity of a space dedicated to relaxation and well-being.

The relaxation area next to the yoga room is nestled in the rocks, offering an extremely suggestive atmosphere. Here, you can detach yourself from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and indulge in two steam baths with stone walls and seating, as well as a whirlpool with color therapy and massage.

While enjoying natural teas and the homemade “Melemito,” a sweet and warm infusion, you can fully dedicate every moment to your well-being.

It now houses the Hotel Wilmina, the Lovis Restaurant, and an art and cultural space called Amtsalon.

Antarctica – Queen Maud Land

Antarctica is a mythical and awe-inspiring destination. The coldest, driest, windiest, most remote place on Earth – it’s the closest you’ll feel to being on another planet.

The area White Desert operates within was discovered by a Norwegian expedition in 1930, claimed by Norway in 1939, and declared a dependency of that nation in 1949. Named in honour of the then Norwegian queen, the region is perfectly situated for exploring the interior of the continent.

It takes us 5-hours by private charter flying from Cape Town and landing on the private blue ice runway, Wolf’s Fang.

Whichaway, the flagship camp is located 170 kilometres (105 mi) from the coast and sits at 100 meters (330 ft) above sea level. Echo Base is situated further inland around 100 kilometres (62 mi) from the coast and at 1130 meters (3700 ft) above sea level.

Several countries operate science research bases in the territory, such as Neumayer-Station III (Germany), Novolazarevskaya Station (Russia), SANAE IV (South Africa) and Maitri (India). White Desert use our operations infrastructure to support many of these teams, transporting around 150 scientists each year.

The ECHO Camp

Inspired by the seminal age of Space exploration, Echo sits in quiet solitude encircled by pitted rock formations. Echo is as close as you can get to feeling like you’re off the planet without leaving Earth.

The space-age design of the ‘Sky Pods’ makes them look like they’ve been beamed down from Mars. Futuristic and luxurious, the six bedrooms are created from composite material with floor to ceiling windows allowing guests to soak in the moon-like landscape beyond.

Original photos taken from the International Space Station (ISS) by former Commander, White Desert guest and retired astronaut, colonel Terry Virts will be featured in each pod.

“The mountains are the most beautiful I have seen across Earth, Venus and Mars.”

says Virts
White Desert 2019/2020 season

Perfect for exclusive use groups and catering for up to 12 people, Echo allows guests to combine an ultra-luxury experience with a once in lifetime adventure on the 7th Continent. As with all White Desert’s camps, Echo is designed to be dismantled, leaving no trace on the Antarctic landscape.

The WHICHAWAY Camp

Whichaway is the flagship camp and sits on the shores of one of the freshwater lakes of the ice-free Schirmacher Oasis.

6 heated ‘polar pods’ are designed with cutting-edge exteriors and old-world interiors that conjure up images of Antarctica’s rich heritage of exploration. Our guests really love to sit back and chat in the communal lounge, library and dining area which is a wonderful space to relax with amazing views.

Savour gourmet meals prepared by your private chef, enjoy a sauna with view of the glacier, sip cocktails by the fire, and cross off bucket list adventures like visiting the South Pole, ice climbing, hiking over ice waves, and coming face-to-face with 28,000 emperor penguins.

Environment & Sustainability

White Desert is founded by record-breaking polar explorers and our goal has always been to create a positive impact on Antarctica’s future. We do this through a number of endeavours including setting science-based targets in line with the Paris Agreement and the UK goal “Net Zero by 2050”.

Carbon Neutral since 2007, White Desert is the first Antarctic operator to trial Sustainable Aviation Fuel on the 7th Continent, with the aim of reducing the overall volume of carbon produced from our operations.

Over the last 5 years, White Desert also diversified and, rather than just taking tourists into Antarctica, they now deliver over 150 scientists to their research bases each season. This allows scientific research to continue using shared and efficient logistics.

ECO-living: a new way of vacation

Embedded in the Tauferer Ahrntal in South Tyrol, an Eco Aparthotel, was created that combines future and tradition. Completely energy self-sufficient, CO2-neutral and innovative regional. In the midst of nature and in the rhythm of the seasons. The name reveals the essence: OLM is South Tyrolean and means as much as the Alm. Organic, self-sufficient and authentic – everything is in circulation. Just like the architecture of the building itself. In OLM you become part of it. “A place to simply be. Yourself.” OLM opens its doors in December 2023.

Energy self-sufficient

True sustainability is not seen by the owner Christian Lechner, who comes from the valley, as an advertising phrase, but as a mission for the future. As the first vacation resort in South Tyrol and probably in the Alpine region, the 4-star superior aparthotel is completely self-sufficient in energy. A combination of hydropower, photovoltaics and, last but not least, geothermal energy, which is unique on this scale, ensures an energy surplus.

ECO Apart Suiten

The total of 33 accommodation units are embedded in warm solid wood and convey the cozy atmosphere of a modern alpine pasture. Large glass fronts open the view from the bed into the picturesque landscape of the Ahrntal. 80 percent of the apart-suites have a kitchenette as well as their own sauna and free-standing bathtub, both once again with an impressive natural panorama.

In some of the suites, separable work areas are available, in order to be able to transfer the topic home office also for some time in the South Tyrolean mountain world. In the ApartSuiten aligned directly to the Almwiesen also guests with dogs find their perfect vacation domicile.

The 60-meter diameter inner circle of the Aparthotel is designed as a wild relaxation garden with a natural bathing pond, in keeping with the eco-idea. Thanks to the hotel’s own electricity, guests can also bathe with a clear conscience in the 25-meter-long sports pool, which is heated all year round and extends outdoors from the indoor sauna and relaxation rooms.

Innovative culinary concept

Offering guests casual vacation freedom is “the” guiding principle at OLM. This is also reflected in the gastronomy, which is completely detached from the traditional half board. And with the highest quality! OLM chef Berni Aichner, for many years sous-chef at Norbert Niederkofler, has developed together with star chef Theodor Falser as a consultant a very special, revolutionary “pleasure after pleasure” concept.

Guests book rooms with breakfast consisting of handpicked local products with high organic content, homemade or from regional manufactures. In addition, they are free to choose: Depending on their mood, either enjoy individual “dine-around” in the region or use the kitchenette of their ApartSuite for self-catering, with a specialty store in the house offering corresponding shopping opportunities.

Or, in the evening, they can taste their way through the APÉRO Dinner offered five times a week in the PRENN° (culinary area in the OLM) with South Tyrolean-Mediterranean specialties in the finest canapés from the show kitchen. In addition, Berni Aichner invites twice a week to the exclusive OLM Dinner (theme evening) with creative tasting menu.

Best of South Tyrol with a fine pinch of Italy, France, Germany and Austria is the motto of the wine list, which is of course also excellently stocked according to the claim of the kitchen.

Destination Tip

As a quiet side valley of the Pustertal, flanked by the pretty towns of Bruneck and Sand in Taufers, the easily accessible Tauferer Ahrntal is a bit out of the way. And that is a good thing! More than 80 three-thousand-meter peaks provide an impressive mountain backdrop and the best conditions for hiking and (e)biking. The flat valley floor also offers plenty of opportunities to take a more leisurely approach to the expansive nature experience.

The region is a paradise for winter hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing – all this snow-sure in the flatter valley or in airy heights with a unique panorama. Exciting experiences are offered by the cross-country ski centers Rein, Antholz and Gsiesertal, fun is had sledding, from meadow slopes to kilometer-long downhill runs, whose high-altitude starts can be reached partly on foot, partly by cable car. In winter, the “Skiworld Ahrntal” at Speikboden and Klausberg offers around 70 kilometers of slopes, plus smaller family areas and the Kronplatz near Bruneck, which is not far away.

The fact that the small town of Bacalar, located on the Yucatán Peninsula, bears the title of “Pueblo Mágico” sounds promising. After all, Mexico’s Secretariat for Tourism explicitly awards this distinction to towns that shine with their typical and well-kept character. However, Bacalar’s surroundings with their tropical vegetation and the beautiful Laguna de los Siete Colores (Lagoon of the Seven Colors) are also considered “magical.

Tree house living

Designed by renowned Mexican architect Frida Escobedo and hidden in dense greenery, the Boca de Agua fascinates not only with its unusual architecture. That a place was to be created here that would contribute to ecological, social and cultural regeneration and offer visitors an equally regenerative, unique experience is palpable just by looking at it: the 26 accommodations are in tree houses resting on pillars. And what gives guests the extra feeling of virtually floating in the treetops also serves to protect nature. This leaves the ground undeveloped, which in turn reduces the environmental impact.

Thanks to the pile construction, more than 90 percent of the site remained intact during the construction of the hotel buildings. Escobedo and the developers of the Boca de Agua also paid attention to sustainability when it came to building materials: The facility is made of wood and stone. Designed in such a way that it will age naturally over the years and, as it were, make its own history visible.

Authentic, sustainable design

Most of the furniture at Boca de Agua was designed by an in-house team and local craftsmen. And it was done using recycled waste from surrounding industrial companies, such as leftover wood from a regional plywood factory. But exclusive pieces from Mexican and local brands, such as light fixtures by Bandido Studio, furnishings and décor details by Cacao Design, Nossara Towel and Hacha Ceramics, also characterize the comfortably simple interior.

The 22 suites and four guest rooms are dominated by wood, soft neutral tones and lots of natural light. This results in a relaxed ambience and actually allows the interiors to merge almost magically with the nature all around when looking outside. Not only that, but the Boca de Agua is designed so that guests can share the space with the largely intact jungle. Also with the wild animals that roam freely on the property of the complex.

Best room

In the Master Pool Treehouse you can enjoy every conceivable luxury and privacy on 75m². It has its own pool, a spacious terrace and furniture specially designed for the hotel. We promise you: “you will never want to leave here again”.

Recreation with “conscious” extra

In addition to its villas, the Boca de Agua of course has amenities such as a pool, roof terrace overlooking the lagoon, its own jetty, restaurant, bar and terraces. Activities of all kinds are also provided at the “magical” hotel – from “treehouse massages” to kayak or sailing tours. In addition, guests can also participate in local projects if they wish. And there are many such projects.

Boca de Agua is collaborating with the local community, local universities, regional non-governmental as well as governmental organizations to develop what is currently the only project with a rehabilitated mangrove ecosystem on the sea in Bacalar.

Culinary, local & organic

It goes without saying that the operators of the Boca de Agua also focus on regional cuisine: The resort’s restaurant serves Yucatecan cuisine enhanced by international influences – prepared from local organic products.

Blessed with its own beach on the most cosmopolitan island of Greece the WILD offers privacy and seclusion, the new “luxuries” we seek while traveling in these times. The WILD is an expression of the philosophy and eclectic taste of the Varveris family, true lovers of Mykonos island.

“We wanted to preserve the emotions the island exhales to incorporate the experience
of “our” Mykonos in a place – wild at heart, mesmerising, unspoilt, nonchalant and, at the same time, filled with culture, excitement and cosmopolitan flair. The energy of this tiny Cycladic island that artists and bon vivants, free spirits and insightful travellers, have fallen in love with for decades,”

Philip Varveris

He and his older brother Alex are the creative forces behind the WILD curators of the hotel’s concept and design. “Along with a team of remarkable people,” they add.
